INSPIRE Teaching Fellows Research Study - funded by the Institute of Education Sciences - 2009-2012 - examination of elementary science teacher professional development model focused on enabling teachers to become more effective at teaching culturally relevant science and enhancing student learning of science. Archival data relating to state science education policy and assessments will be examined. A randomly selected stratified sample of 15,000 teachers will be surveyed regarding their practice. This is a national study of science education policy and practice in all 50 states focused on determining the alignment of individual state policy, assessment, and actual instructional practice in science. Johnson currently serves as Editor of the School Science and Mathematics Journal. Her work in the areas of STEM education reform, policy and professional development provides a lens to guide her undergraduate and graduate level courses for pre-service and in-service teachers, as well as building administrators.ĭr.
